MOOC on Water Resources Management and Policy

MOOC on Water Resources Management and Policy As of 4 January 2016, the "Education and Knowledge" component of the Geneva Water Hub has made the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on Water Resources Management and Policy on the Coursera platform available in English. This course is a first of a series, it is free of charge and freely accessible.

Water management nowadays faces new challenges, such as climate change or the influence of anthropogenic activities. Public or private actors in this field have to develop new competences to better manage the water cycle “at large”.

The objectives of this MOOC are therefore to understand the issues surrounding water resource governance. The course will firstly define "What is a resource?" and more particularly water resources, their uses, their related activities, as well as possible conflicts. The course will then focus more in details on water governance, analysing the types of rules and rights at stake around water governance, such as the development of a multi-sector regulation and a watershed based approach.

This MOOC on Water Resources Management and Policy allows the participants (students, individuals interested in this topic, professionals, policy-makers, etc.) to have new competences to understand the political, institutional and regulatory issues of water governance.

The length of this course is about five weeks, during which video lessons, evaluation exercises and interaction tools to exchange with the experts and other students will be provided. At the end of the course, students who completed successfully all the modules will receive a Statement of Accomplishment.

This course is funded by the Global Programme Water of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
