Enhancing the role of women in water management is essential for building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable water systems. In this context, Women Water Week 2026 was organized in Tashkent on 25–26 March, bringing together around 70 women professionals from across Uzbekistan’s water sector.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and partners, within the framework of Tashkent Water Week.
The two-day event served as a platform to strengthen the capacity, leadership, and professional networks of women working in water management. Participants represented a wide range of institutions, including basin irrigation system authorities, local government bodies, national agencies, and research institutions.

The event took place at an important stage of ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s water sector. The adoption of the new Water Code and the Gender Concept for Water Resources Management (2025–2030) has created a strong foundation for more integrated, climate-resilient, and gender-responsive water governance. In this context, strengthening women’s participation in decision-making processes remains a key priority.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in thematic sessions, expert discussions, and interactive exchanges focused on water legislation, gender policy, and innovative approaches in water management. National and international experts shared practical insights and experiences, while women leaders in the sector highlighted their professional journeys and lessons learned.

A key highlight of the event was the recognition of women who have made significant contributions to the development of Uzbekistan’s water sector, showcasing their role in advancing sustainable and inclusive water management.
The event also provided valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration, fostering connections among professionals from different regions and institutions. These interactions are expected to support continued cooperation and knowledge sharing beyond the event.

The event was supported by a broad coalition of partners, including the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (SIC ICWC), Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the International Secretariat for Water (ISW), as well as the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) initiative, implemented by IWMI and funded by SDC, and other partner organizations.
By strengthening knowledge, skills, and professional networks, Women Water Week 2026 contributed to advancing women’s leadership and supporting ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s water sector.
