Central Asian countries at the World Water Week 2019

A Central Asia delegation of the six riparian States of the Amu Darya and Syr Daria attended the Stockholm World Water Week 2019, jointly invited by the Swedish International Water Institute (SIWI) and Switzerland through its BPCA initiative, another major milestone which took place during the last week of August. The participants, from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Ministries of Water Resources (MWR) and the National Strategic Institutes (SI), at the level of head or deputy head of department/SI, could take advantage of numerous (partly high level) sessions, in which experts addressed particularly transboundary water issues, water diplomacy, river basin approach, the role of river basin organizations (RBO), water quality management, and the potential driving force of the new generations to supply new ideas. Highlights included the High-Level Panel on Water and Peace and the panel discussion with representatives of the young generation of CA, and of other regions. The week offered also the opportunity to the HL experts to share their views on integrated water resource management, at the national and regional levels.
