Astana World Expo 2017

Astana World Expo 2017

On 10 June 2017, the Swiss pavilion opened its doors at World Expo Astana 2017. The first world exhibition to be held in Central Asia was dedicated to the theme of ‘Future Energy’. The Swiss pavilion, organised by Presence Switzerland, showcased Switzerland as an innovative country with an interactive and surprising exhibition on the issues of energy efficiency, renewable energies, and global water management.

Two Blue Peace events were organised:

  • 17.05 – 19.05.2017: Youth Regional Meeting on Water Central Asia

The Central Asia Youth Workshop was organised jointly by SDC under the Blue Peace initiative and the International Secretariat for Water as part of its Youth Strategy #WaterGeneration. For three days, over 20 young participants from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan learned and shared ideas about water-related issues and how to address them in the region. The result was the development of a Youth Vision, which was presented at the 4th General Assembly of the World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW) (Brasilia, March 2018).

  • 19.05 – 20.05.2017: BPCA Dialogue for 2030 - Water Security and Inclusive Growth

Building on the achievements of the “Basel Conference” held in 2014, the Blue Peace Central Asia Conference of June 18-20, 2017, brought together for a second time high-level governmental representatives of the five Central Asian States in Astana to discuss in an open dialog with international experts and the Swiss Federal Councillor solutions towards sustainable transboundary water management in the region. The meeting aimed at converting the Basel spirit and resolutions into an action-oriented and structured cooperation process among the countries, validating the Working Guidelines for the respective Dialog Platform and defining the next concrete steps.
