Basel Conference on IWRM

“Basel Conference on Integrated Water Resources Management” on 24-26 November 2014

On invitation of Switzerland, the main objectives of the Basel Conference were (i) contribute to developing a shared vision concerning the challenges in the water sector and sustainability, and (ii) develop trust and political will for dealing with the multiple risks of the region, by looking at the river basin management of Switzerland in a European framework, situations and risks in the context of IWRM, efficient and sustainable use of resources, science and technology as well as education in water relevant domains.  All five countries participated with high-level delegations, at least at Deputy Minister level. This was the first time ever that all of them sat together in this configuration in order to discuss water management issues. The results of this Conference set the grounds for the Blue Peace Central Asia initiative.
